Alvarion to show dual-band roaming

BARCELONA (WiMAX Day). Alvarion, Comfone, Iberbanda and Intel have joined forces to demonstrate dual technology roaming using WiFi and mobile WiMAX. This technology will allow users to benefit from enhanced coverage by utilising two types of broadband wireless technologies. The companies are showcasing their work this week during the Mobile World Conference in Barcelona, Spain.

Their demonstrations will include a real life usage of Web 2.0 applications over mobile WiMAX. It works like this: Intel’s WiMAX Connection 2250 chip is integrated into Alvarion’s 4Motion platform; the technology runs over a 3.5 GHz frequency provided by Iberbanda using the Comfone-provided WLAN access points and WiFi roaming platform. The dual roaming technology illustrates how single account users can easily access both WiMAX and WLAN in the future.
