BARCELONA (WiMAX Day). Motorola announced plans to license its mobile WiMAX chipset-based radio, the Motorola WTM1000 (WiMAX terminal modem), to interested third-parties. The chipset is designed to deliver high-speed functionality through slim devices. It also has been optimised for size and low power consumption. The radio reference design licensing agreement was created in partnership with wireless networking solution provider, Enfora.
As part of the program, the company is also offering essential IP licenses for its portfolio of WiMAX patents to third parties. The WTM1000 is scheduled for release in Motorola’s line-up of WiMAX mobile devices early this year for a variety of carriers, including Sprint Nextel’s XOHM. Both Motorola and Enfora believe that their program is an important milestone in the acceleration of WiMAX use into a wider consumer base.
