BARCELONA (WiMAX Day). Alcatel-Lucent and Samsung have unveiled a dual-mode solution for GSM/EDGE and WiMAX networks. On demonstration at the Mobile World Congress this week, the solution “will enable operators to blend GSM-EDGE and WiMAX networks and thus offer their mobile subscribers wireless data and voice service that span an entire nation,” Alcatel said in a press release. This compelling platform will enable network operators to roll-out services for mobile WiMAX using 802.16e technology, which can work seamlessly with a networks GSM-EDGE services. “The arrival of dual-mode in the market place is highly anticipated and represents a significant step for the development of the WiMAX market,” said Michael Thelander, CEO Signals Research Group, in a prepared statement.
