Mobile WiMAX an imperative for France

PARIS (WiMAX). Mobility for WiMAX licenses in France was named as one of the many actions needed to improve the competitiveness of French industry, a recent report concluded. Under the chairmanship of Jacques Attali, former presidential advisor and founder of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, “The Commission Report for the Liberation of French Growth” says it is “not as a report or a study, but a manual for urgent reforms.” Presently, licenses for 3.5 GHz WiMAX frequencies in France do not permit mobility. The report said that “For wireless access, the aim is to maximise opportunities for the diffusion of services provided by the future 4G mobile phone technology, WiMAX and its developments, which permits broadband mobility, and is a less expensive competitor to mobile phones.”
