TBILISI (WiMAX Day). The National Communications Commission (NCC) in Georgia announced this week that it will auction licenses for 3.5 GHz WiMAX spectrum on April 4, 2008. NCC reached a decision on March 5, 2008 to auction more spectrum, and the deadline for submitting applications is March 20, 2008. The initial license fee NCC has set at GEL 1,862,502 (USD 1.2 million), and a fee of 10% is required to enter the bidding process. In October last year, the NCC awarded and license for 3.5 GHz spectrum to LLC Warid Telecom Georgia (a subsidiary of Pakistani operator Warid Telecom), for which Warid paid GEL 17.01 million (USD 10.4 million).
