CARACAS (WiMAX Day). Omnivision in Venezuela announced yesterday that it has awarded a contract to POSDATA FLYVO to expand its mobile WiMAX network which operates under the MovilMax brand name. According to a press release, POSDATA will supply 300 base stations and some 30,000 user terminals for the first phase in 2008. The network was first launched in July 2007 running on a 2.5 GHz frequency. Omnivision says it intends to “expand coverage from 8 million population in Caracas, to 28 million population nationwide in 3 years, targeting 2.5 million subscribers in 5 years.” “Omnivision’s nationwide mobile WiMAX network will provide seamless access and connectivity to Venezuela, and we are pleased that POSDATA will be our partner with its leading products,” said Mr. Dick Abanto Ishiwata, CEO of Omnivision.
