PARIS (WiMAX Day). The Austrian company WiMAX Telecom has awarded a contract to Alcatel-Lucent for the supply of a WiMAX network using the IEEE 802.16e standard. According to an Alcatel-Lucent press release, the company will begin to build the network in the areas of Split and Osijek. WiMAX Telecom, a unit of NextWave Wireless, owns 39 MHz of 3.5 GHz spectrum 5 out of 6 regions in Croatia covering some 3 million pops. The company has applied for frequencies in the remaining region.
