RIYADH (WiMAX Day). Etihad Atheeb Telecommunication Company announced that it has awarded a contract to Motorola valued at USD 165 million to construct a WiMAX network in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Motorola will provide Atheeb with its WiMAX platform, based on IEEE 802.16e standards. Atheeb was awarded a WiMAX license in 2007, which was finalised by Royal Decree earlier this month. Batelco, a 15% shareholder in the Atheeb consortium, has been busy planning the WiMAX network during the last year, and much of the operational expertise in running the network will come from Batelco.
