MONTREAL (WiMAX Day). The market research company Maravedis reported today that global BWA/WiMAX subscriber base increased in Q4 2007 to 1.7 million subscribers. With an increase of 350,000 subscribers over the previous quarter, the report notes that many operators are still awaiting delivery of equipment certified for the IEEE 802.16e standard. However in some markets there is significant growth. “We are already seeing these tipping points in India, Pakistan, and Africa, and we expect other emerging, heavily populated regions to be spurred by lower device pricing, which in turn will drive equipment volume ramp-up during 2009-2010,” said Robert Syputa, Maravedis Partner and Senior Analyst. The report also found that the almost half of the total subscribers were using equipment certified by the WiMAX Forum.
