Alvarion announced today that it has signed a master supply agreement with Digicel Group as its strategic partner to deploy WiMAX networks throughout the Caribbean over the next five years. Digicel is the largest mobile operator in the Caribbean and began to deploy mobile WiMAX with Alvarion last year in Grand Cayman. based on the success of that network, Digicel plans to expand its WiMAX network to other countries in the Caribbean. “Businesses and consumers are looking for an alternative wireless solution,” said Mario Assaad, CTO of Digicel Group, in a press release. “Mobile WiMAX represents a unique opportunity for Digicel to leapfrog current technology to offer a wireless full service portfolio as an attractive alternative to the existing operators’ offering.”
