LONDON (WiMAX Day). A recent report by market researcher iSupply notes that owners of the popular Apple iPhone in America are using the telephone largely for data. According to iSupply, most people use their mobile telephone for voice communication 71.7% of the time, whereas in a consumer survey they found the iPhone is utilised for voice on average only 46.5% of the time.
The US consumer used the remainder of the time coveting their iPhones for e-mail and Internet, 12.1 percent and 10.4 percent respectively. iPhone users otherwise found themselves engaged with their devices listening to music and sending SMS text messages.
The report from iSupply is corroborated by other researchers. Last month, the mobile measurement firm M:Metrics reported that as of January 2008, 30.9 percent of iPhone owners watched mobile TV or video, 84.4 percent accessed news and information via the web browser, 49.7 percent of iPhone users accessed a social networking sites, and not surprisingly, 74.1 percent of iPhone owners listened to mobile music on their iPhone.
Another report noted that the average Internet usage for iPhone customers in January was 100 megabytes per month.
