KUALA LUMPUR (WiMAX Day). The chairman of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) said on Friday that the roll-out of WiMAX networks in Malaysia is delayed do to the global scarcity of WiMAX certified equipment based on the IEEE 802.16e standard. “That is beyond our control. Even the US WiMAX faces delay,” said chairman Datuk Dr Halim Shafie at a conference. Each of the four companies awarded licenses for WiMAX last year had certain roll-out commitments for 2008, and it is likely that they will not be able to meet those commitments, due to the lack of equipment. However, the WoMAX Forum has announced that products are now being certified for the 802.16e standard, and deliveries of equipment are expected to Malaysia later this year.
