WASHINGTON, DC (WiMAX DAY). Speaking at a meeting of the Wireless Communications Association (WCA) yesterday, Sprint Nextel CTO Barry West said “the big announcement is that WiMAX is here and it works.” As the head of Sprint’s Xohm WiMAX business unit, West was discussing delays in the roll-out of its WiMAX services. Xohm began a successful “soft launch” of its WiMAX service earlier this year in Chicago, Baltimore and Washington DC, but according to West, the company was required to delay commercial launch of the service until later this year. West laments not making the April commercial launch, but said he is now focussed on building “a robust service.” Ever the pragmatic visionary, West said that by 2010 “we’re going to see WiMAX in just about everything.”
