Germany to auction 2.6 GHz in 2009

BONN (WiMAX Day). The Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur) in Germany announced that it will auction 2500 ~ 2690 MHz frequencies in 2009. “The Agency is consistently following the path of flexible spectrum regulation it embarked upon for the BWA auction in December 2006″, said Matthias Kurth, president of the Bundesnetzagentur. According to an official announcement, the spectrum will be made available for broadband applications, with “no restrictions on the use of particular technologies or standards (eg UMTS, WiMAX, etc)… to allow maximum technology and service neutrality.” The Bundesnetzagentur said it will now draft a set of final rules for the auction, and invite final comments through a consultation.
