MOSCOW (WiMAX Day). The Russian State Commission of Radio Frequencies (GKRCh) said that the frequency range of 2300 ~ 2400 MHz can be transferred from use by the military and used for WiMAX. Up to three new licenses may be issued in this frequency range. While many companies are already operating WiMAX in Russia, additional spectrum is expected to open the market. According to Lee Sparkman, president of WiMAX operator Enforta, “this is very desirable spectrum.” It is especially the case outside of major metropolitan areas, where such spectrum is scarce. The GKRCh has not determined how and when the frequencies will be allocated.
