LONDON (WiMAX Day). The largest auction of 2.5 GHz spectrum in Europe this year may face delays. According to several reports, the GSM network operator T-Mobile has sought a court injunction to delay the auction. At issue is the “re-farming” of spectrum for 2G and 3G services in the UK. The UK telecoms regulator Ofcom last year proposed that some of the unused 3G spectrum owned by the likes of Vodafone, O2 and Orange could be taken back and re-distributed to other companies, however a decision on this has not been reached. An article in the Guardian said that for the UK mobile operators, they must first know what the status is on their existing spectrum, before they can consider participation in the 2.5 GHz auction.
