JAKARTA (WiMAX Day). According to a report in Antara News, the Indonesian government plans to put 2.3 GHz WiMAX spectrum to tender bid in Q4 2008. The Director General of Post and Telecommunications, Basuki Yusuf Iskandar, was quoted as saying that there is significant interest in the spectrum, and the government is now conducting tests with several companies. However, the government will demand that local products are used in any infrastructure built for a WiMAX network. “We must look at WiMAX in a comprehensive way. In this context, we control its resources so we can decide who can take part in the tender. What is important, [the winning bidder] is obliged to use local products,” the Director General said in the report.
