NEW YORK (WiMAX Day). A recent article in the journal Science forecast that in the near future, all laptop computers will be enabled with WiMAX, the same way that they are sold with WiFi today.
According to Robert Morrow, former Deputy Head of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at the United States Air Force Institute of Technology, the compelling factor about WiMAX technology is that it will provide users with a mobile broadband connection that that will be fast and available virtually everywhere.
WiMAX has a distinct advantage over current wireless services in America, according to Morrow, because WiMAX is set to become a national standard. Thanks to WiMAX pioneers such as Sprint, which is building a national network and set to merger its Xohm network with Clearwire, in the future, it should be possible to drive cross the extent of America and remain connected to the Internet.
Morrow, who is currently a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), predicts that WiMAX will be widespread in all American cities over the next few years, and “in five years it will be sold on all laptops.”
