HELSINKI (WiMAX Day). The Finnet Group subsidiary Savonlinna Telephone Company (SPY) announced last week that it has successfully completed a field test of mobile WiMAX in Savonlinna, Finland. The test hosted a small network using a 3.5 GHz frequency that measured data transfer rates, base station handover and frequency coverage. The network was provided by the WiMAX equipment manufacturer Alvarion, which included base stations, and PCMCIA cards for laptops, amongst other network equipment. SPY already provides fixed WiMAX services.
