ISLAMABAD (WiMAX Day). Huawei Technologies Co, Ltd announced today that Mobilink, the leading GSM operator in Pakistan, has awarded the company a contract to deploy a commercial mobile WiMAX network, based on the IEEE 802.16e standard.

According to a company press release, the network will cover the central business districts of six major cities in Pakistan, including Islamabad, Karachi, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Lahore and Rawalpindi.

Huawei will provide Mobilink with a complete WiMAX network solution, including base stations, network gateay and management system. Huawei said it be able to the WiMAX network with Mobilink’ s existing 2G networks.
