TAIPEI (WiMAX Day). The National Communications Commission (NCC) in Taiwan has rejected the request made by First International Telecom (Fitel) to spin-off its WiMAX business into a new company.
Fitel has been looking at ways to finance the build-out of its WiMAX network, separate from its existing GSM business. According to a report in DigiTimes, investors indicated to Fitel that the WiMAX business would need to be separated from all other businesses for it to be an attractive investment.
The NCC said that the WiMAX licenses that was awarded to Fitel is not transferable, “and cannot be leased to a third-party.”
