MANILA (WiMAX Day). Globe Telecom told investors today that it plans to launch a commercial WiMAX network in October this year. Using base stations and CPE equipment from Huawei, the company said it will launch the network first in Manila and Cebu. Globe already has a sizeable 3G network that covers the major cities of the Philippines, and according to Gil Genio, director of enterprise business at Globe, the WiMAX network will grow quickly as Globe will continue “expanding the service to cover as many urban areas possible.”
