PORTLAND (WiMAX Day). Follow the recent announcement of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) of India to release 2.3 GHz and 2.5 GHz spectrum for use with WiMAX, the WiMAX Forum issued a statement commending the DoT for its commitment to an upcoming auction.
The industry-led organisation noted that India is in critical need of greater broadband connectivity, for which WiMAX is well-suited, and according to Ron Resnick, president of the WiMAX Forum, “WiMAX will enable the proliferation of wireless broadband for all consumer segments, including broadband services in dense urban and suburban areas, rural broadband connectivity to enable high speed wireless applications and services, and enterprise broadband access across [India].”
Commensurate with the availability of four WiMAX licenses in India, the WiMAX Forum also announced that it will open a certification lab in India by the end of this year.
