NEW DELHI (WiMAX Day). The Business Standard in India reports that the state-owned telecom Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL) intends to install WiMAX base stations in 1,000 blocks across India. Rural India is divided into 6,000 such “blocks” or zones, and by the end of 2008, BSNL says that it can provide high-speed Internet access to some 25,000 villages. BSNL has rights to install in these blocks, and has invited companies to bid for the right to provide WiMAX equipment.
