KUALA LUMPUR (WiMAX Day). Packet One Networks (P1) announced that it has launched its WiMAX services in Malaysia. The network infrastructure is provided by Alcatel-Lucent and covers several location in the Klang Valley region. By the end of this year, P1 says that it will extend coverage of the network to include Johor, Penang, Kedah, Perak, Negeri Sembilan and Melaka on the West Coast of Peninsula Malaysia. Acording to Michael Lai, CEO of P1, the network should gain up to 100,000 subscribers over the next 12 months. P1 said the service will provide customers with data speeds up to 2.4Mbps. The monthly cost of a service with 1.2Mbps will be roughly USD 29, and a 2.4Mbps package will cost subscribers USD 68 per month.
