NEW DELHI (WiMAX Day). Intel Corporation announced today its support for the “Connected Indians” program push by government and industry in India to facilitate the provision of Internet access to billions of people in India.
The American chipmaker also announced that it has signed a memorandum of understanding with India’s largest telecommunications carrier Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL) to help the efforts of BSNL to deliver WiMAX solutions across India.
According to an Intel press release, the two companies will collaborate to “evolve a set of basic standards for building WiMAX rollout and applications in India and develop a pilot WiMAX solution specifically for rural markets.”
The agreement with BSNL also will involve Cisco, wherein the two companies will “jointly promote the business and technology advantages of WiMAX to corporations and enterprises.”
